Jose Manuel (in bold, larger font)
In 19As a young man Jose Manuel Jimenez Alvarez moved down to Puntarenas from his home town in Palmares, Alajuela seeking prosperity(?). Eventually he met Olga Alvarez Martinez and began a family with her. Throughout his time in Puntarenas Jose Manuel fufuilled many different roles at different times like a farmer, policeman, "doctor", typist(?), high school principal(?) and briefly even as a bed and breakfast owner. In 1974 Jose Manuel began hearing about an untamed land to the south that offered many opportunities for those seeking a new beginning and a better life. He first went by himself to scout out this wild land and once he was satisfied that it would be a good place for his family he returned to bring his family. As they adapted to this untamed environment, Jose Manuel set up the only store in the area and he began acquiring much land, which was very easy at that time. Also, he soon became a leader in the small community. In 1980(?) he purchased the land where Drake Bay Wilderness Resort would later be founded.

Marleny Jimenez Alvarez was the second of six children that Jose Manuel and Olga had while in Puntarenas. Marleny went along with her family to brave the challanges and dangers of a new and completely different life in the wilds of Bahia Drake. She stayed with them the first year there, but she realized she wanted to go further in her schooling and prepare for a career, therefore, at age 14(?), she went back to Puntarenas where she continued working hard on her studies. Years later, she bacame a nurse at a hospital in San Jose. Sometime afterward she met Herbert and her life changed yet again.
Herbert (in bold, larger font)
Herbert Michaud was originally from Wisconsin, United States, and as a young man fresh out of the army moved to Florida looking for a new life in a more tropical place. He eventually started hearing great things about Costa Rica and decided to drive down in 1971(?) with his best friend, Tom Martin, and other friends. They fell in love with the Costa Rican people and the natural beauty and started coming down every winter and spending several months traveling to different parts of the country and living all sorts of adventures. During a stay he met Marleny in San Jose for a brief moment. He soon discovered he could live with out here and not long after going back to Florida he contacted her and invited her to come up to Florida. They married and they lived in Florida for 2 years.

In the years that Herbert and Marleny lived in the United States they would come down to Bahia Drake and visit Jose Manuel. Jose Manuel was a loving father and grandfather and he enjoyed all of his children and his grandchildren very much. Therefore, when Herbert and Marleny came down he was glad to see their children, but he was dismayed at the fact that they could understand Spanish, but they could not speak it. He wanted to have his grandchildren close to him and to be able to communicate with them. For this reason, he came up with the idea of selling the property, on which he was living at the time, to Herbert and Marleny and them starting a hotel there. When Herbert and Marleny heard the idea of buying the property and starting a hotel there, they liked it.
